- In your Maia hub account, click your profile in the bottom-left corner.
- Click Budgets and alerts.
Budgets do not restrict or block usage. Pipelines, jobs, and Maia continue to run normally even after a budget is exceeded. The only effect of crossing a budget threshold, or reaching 100% of a budget, is an alert.
Account budgets
The Account tab tracks total credit consumption across every project in your Maia account, at two levels: an annual budget and an optional monthly budget.Annual budget
The Annual budget card tracks your credit consumption over your current term. A term is the period covered by the credits you purchased under your contract with Matillion. The length of the term depends on your agreement—for example, 12 or 24 months—so a term isn’t always a single year. The thresholds you set apply from the term start to the term end. At the top of the card, you can see your Credit allowance for term, Term start, and Term end, which are read-only values pulled from your contract. You can set up to two percentage-based thresholds on your credit allowance for the term. When your consumption reaches a threshold, Maia sends a notification to alert you. The Warning and Critical values must be different from each other. Under each field, Maia shows the number of credits at which the threshold is reached.- Warning: The first alert point.
- Critical: The second alert point, intended for a higher level of urgency.
- Click … in the top-right corner of the Annual budget card.
- Click the edit thresholds option.
- Enter a whole number between 1 and 100 in the Warning and Critical fields. The value represents the percentage of your total credit allowance at which you want to be notified.
- Click Save.
Monthly budget
The monthly budget lets you track consumption within your current term at a finer level. Toggle Monthly budget on to enable it. The Credit allowance for month is calculated automatically based on your term and can’t be edited. You can edit only the thresholds. Once enabled, you can set your own Warning and Critical thresholds for the monthly allowance, separate from your annual thresholds. To set monthly budget thresholds:- Toggle Monthly budget on.
- Enter a whole number between 1 and 100 in the Warning and Critical fields. The value represents the percentage of your monthly credit allowance at which you want to be notified.
- Click Save.
Overage alert
In addition to your Warning and Critical thresholds, Maia automatically sends an overage alert when your account’s credit consumption exceeds 100% of your credit allowance. You don’t configure the overage alert, and you can’t turn it off. Maia always emails the overage alert to all Billing Admins and Super Admins on the account. Any of these users can also receive it through other delivery channels by adding them to the account billing notification. For more information, read Billing notifications.Projects budgets
A project budget lets you allocate part of your account’s credit allowance to one or more individual projects—how much you allocate is up to you— with threshold notifications when consumption approaches that limit. As with account budgets, each project budget has an annual allowance and an optional monthly allowance. The Projects tab shows a table of all existing project budgets. You can sort the table by any column, and use the search bar to filter by project name. Each row shows:- Project: The project the budget applies to.
- Annual budget: The project’s credit allowance for the current term.
- Annual thresholds: The two threshold levels at which the annual budget’s notifications fire, shown as percentages.
- Monthly budget: The project’s monthly credit allowance, calculated automatically based on the term (a dash if no monthly budget is configured).
- Monthly thresholds: The two threshold levels at which the monthly budget’s notifications fire, shown as percentages (a dash if no monthly budget is configured).

100% budget alert
In addition to your Warning and Critical thresholds, Maia automatically sends an alert when a project has used 100% of the budget you allocated to it. For example, if your account’s credit allowance for the term is 10,000 credits and you allocate 5,000 credits to a project, you’re alerted at your Warning and Critical thresholds, and again when the project reaches 5,000 credits. This alert tells you the project has used its full allocation. It isn’t an overage alert—overage alerts apply only to your account budget. To receive it, add delivery channels to the project’s billing notification.Billing notifications
When your credit consumption crosses a threshold—whether for an account-level or project-level budget—Maia sends a billing notification. A notification is scoped to the account or to a specific project, and a single notification covers both the annual and monthly thresholds for that scope. Notifications are managed on the Billing tab of the Notifications page—click Manage notifications in the top-right corner of this page to get there. Delivery channels (email, Slack, or webhook) are configured per user; recipients aren’t set here. The exception is the account’s annual Warning and Critical threshold alerts and the overage alert, which Maia always emails to all Billing Admins and Super Admins. You receive every other alert through the delivery channels you add for it.Add notifications directly
Click Add notifications in the top-right corner of this page to go straight to the Add billing notification page—the same page you’d reach from the Notifications page:- Select Account budget thresholds for contract consumption to configure a notification for your account budget, and/or select one or more projects from the Project drop-down. Only projects that already have a budget configured on this page appear in the Project drop-down—you can’t create a notification for a project until you’ve set its budget.
- Under How do you want to receive this notification?, select one or more channels: Email, Slack, or Webhook.
- Click Save.
If the selected account or project already has a notification configured, it’s replaced with the new settings you define here.
