When creating a Maia account, users select an account region, which determines where their data and resources are stored and processed. This region is fixed once the account is created and can’t be changed. To use a different region, a separate Maia account must be created.
AI features delivered by Maia Team may be processed within a broader geographic boundary associated with the selected account region (an “Inference Zone”), which may include other countries or regions beyond the account region itself.

Account region

When you sign up to Maia, you can create or join an account. If you choose to create an account, you must also choose which region you would like to set for your Maia account. This is your account region. Some Matillion features involve your business data being processed and/or stored in Matillion’s infrastructure. Matillion will only process and/or store the data required to use our tools. In these cases, it will only be within the selected region. Your choice might be based on a combination of geographical closeness, legal jurisdiction, or other factors. Your account region contains your data and resources and can’t be changed after your Maia account is provisioned. If you wish to subscribe to another region, you’ll need to create an additional Maia account. Customers who use Hybrid SaaS development models can continue to host their data and resources in the region of their choice.

Types of data

Customer data

Customer data is data loaded from a customer’s source system, or loaded into their data warehouse. All customer data is subject to regional protections.
Matillion does not share any of your data with third-party AI models.

Customer metadata

Information about a customer’s data—such as designs and pipeline configurations. All customer metadata is subject to region protections.

Matillion metadata

Information about how a customer uses Matillion products such as user logins or which components were added to the canvas. This also includes metadata required for billing purposes. Matillion metadata is excluded from region protections.

Global resources

Some resources provided by Matillion are not subject to account regions; they are used globally. Typically, data that is not subject to region protections is account-level information. Global resources include but are not limited to:
  • Maia account information.
  • Maia user information.
  • Roles and permissions.
  • Subscription/billing information.

Regional resources

Regional resources are accessible by resources within the same region within the same account. When used, regional resources include but are not limited to:
  • Maia runners
  • Custom connectors
  • Schedules
  • Designer (including projects, pipelines, and tasks)
